This is because the living GMOs proliferate, persist, disperse and sometimes may transfer their DNA into other organisms. GEOs could also displace the existing organism and create new species which may cause severe environmental damage. Due to these risks the regulatory authorities are very careful in permitting the field trials of GMOs into the environment.
